Artist Bio

Alaskan artist Sinyeet De’e’elo (b. 1985) is an interdisciplinary artist who works in illustration, landscape photography, and writes historical fiction. Drawing from his own and his own mixed Athabascan and Hungarian heritage and utilizing a wide range of research methods including oral recordings, historical literature, on-site observations, De’e’elo’s work explores Alaskan cultural identity and uses using representative and layered images to evoke feelings of nostalgia and belonging. De’e’elo’ main process involves incorporating historical research into visual storytelling, with an emphasis on landscapes and pre-colonial Alaskan themes including Athabascan mythology. His alternative process encompasses travel photography that includes research of topography, meteorological conditions and astronomy for capturing landscapes. De’e’elo is pursuing a BFA from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and during summer months working to bring a historical fiction novel to completion.
